Spot News Photographs
Spot News refers to the presentation of news as they are occurring, and therefore tend to be unplanned. Most of the photograph in this section would nowadays be described as “breaking news,” and are often related to natural disasters, fires, deaths, or accidents. Underwood and Underwood was capable to quickly make pictures of such event readily available, not only due to their own staff of photographers, but because they were one of very few companies who also bought photographs from freelance photographer when they were not able to send one of their own.
